Grand Lodge of Arizona Public Schools Program
Classroom Grant and Essay Contest Information for Teachers
The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Arizona offers an exciting opportunity for teachers through the Classroom Grant and Essay Contest programs. These initiatives are designed to support educators and students, enhancing learning experiences and fostering a deeper connection between local schools and the community. Last year, we gave over $1,000 in awards to students nominated by their teachers and over $2,500 in grants for classroom projects and we hope to award more next year.
Classroom Grant Program
Teachers in grades K through 8 are invited to apply for Classroom Grants ranging from $50 to $350. This funding is intended to support classroom projects that enhance the educational experience. Here are the key details:
-
Eligibility: Teachers in grades K through 8 may submit one grant request per year.
-
Application Process: All grant requests must be submitted through a sponsoring Masonic Lodge.
-
Selection: Members of the sponsoring Masonic Lodge will review all submissions and forward two entries to the Grand Lodge of Arizona Public Schools Committee for statewide consideration.
-
Notification: Teachers will be notified of any awards through their sponsoring Masonic Lodge.
This program is an excellent way to bring valuable resources into your classroom, and we encourage all eligible teachers to participate.
Essay Contest Program
The Essay Contest is another opportunity for teachers to engage students in thoughtful reflection and expression. Open to students in grades 3 through 8, this contest encourages students to think critically and creatively on various topics. The following guidelines apply:
-
Eligibility: Students in grades 3 through 8 are eligible to enter.
-
Essay Requirements: Essays should reflect the student’s cognitive thinking, logic, and opinions, supported by any factual information. This is not a research paper, but a chance for students to share their unique perspectives.
-
Submission: Essays must be submitted through a sponsoring Masonic Lodge, where members will select the top three entries per grade level to forward to the Grand Lodge of Arizona Public Schools Committee.
-
Awards: Local Masonic Lodges will provide 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for each grade, and these winners will be eligible for state-level recognition.
Both the Classroom Grant and Essay Contest programs offer meaningful ways to support youth education while building connections within your community. We encourage all teachers to explore these opportunities and become involved in helping students and educators succeed.
